Thanksgiving Was Quiet But Then on Friday…

At 8:36 AM, the MECC Center dispatched Jefferson, Mifflin & Plain Township companies to a residence fire on Johnstown Road.  Rescue 133, stationed only a few blocks away, reported a heavy column of smoke as they pulled out of quarters.  The single family dwelling had heavy fire extending from an enclosed breezeway into the garage as well as into the upstairs portion of the home and through the roof.  Companies made an initial interior attack but the fire rapidly spread across the upper floor and defensive operations were ordered.  Crews soon gained the upper hand and the fire was brought under control.

One box 15 member who lives less than 2 miles away reported directly to the scene, followed by a second member who brought 2 cases of bottled water.  Rehab 1 arrived about ½ hour later and remained for an hour and a half.  During the deployment, we dispensed 2 cases of bottled water, 2 gallons of coffee, hot chocolate, 2 dozen granola bars and a new item for us – fruit cups, which went over well.
