Box 15 Attends Training Academy Dedication

Box 15 attended the Columbus Fire training academy dedication this afternoon on Parsons Ave.   The new buildings took two years to complete and include a burn tower, a rappel tower, roof simulator and bays for the training department equipment.    Box 15 attended the official ground breaking for this and it was fitting for us to attend the opening.   We wish all those who train there the best of luck. 2008 Year In Review

A very exciting year for Box 15 with over 1100 miles driven between our two rehab units.   Some highlights of the year We received a new(to us) 2003 Ford/Horton truck from Washington Township and placed it in service in record time (two weeks.)  Back in April, Box 15 held its annual award presentation. This years winners were: Max Haverman Award(City Firefighter of the year)  Bill Guerard & Larry Parlett Award (County Fire Fighter of the year) Capt. Vince Papa (Norwich Township.)
Sadly we lost a member this year, Duane Kesterson lost his battle with cancer. He will be missed.
Several departments had requests for service this year by Box 15.  There were 35 call outs from Columbus Fire, 4 from Truro Township, 2 each from Madison, Norwich, Plain townships and Whitehall Fire and 1 each from Upper Arlington Fire Department, Westerville Fire Department, Prairie, Mifflin, Violet, and Washington Townships.

Box 15 responded to 18 2nd alarm fires, 8 hot/cold weather responses 16 special requests for rehab services, 2 3rd alarm fires, 14 training/community evens, 1 commercial aircrash and 2 HAZMAT/Bomb incidents responses. At those responses Box 15 served over 3000 fire/ems & police personnel. Box 15 served 45 gallons of Sqwincher, 33 gallons of coffee, 23 gallons of hot chocolate, 4070 bottles of water and 1050 granola bars. We also packed in almost 1000 pounds of ice throughout the year.

Other items supplied by Box 15 at either fire or training events include:  100 pizzas, 268 cans of soda, 250 hamburgers, 16 dozen cookies 24 pounds each of oranges and bananas.
As you can see its been a very busy year.  So from all the members of Box 15 we wish everyone in the fire & police services a very Happy New Year.

Box 15 is Happy to Announce the Arrival of a new Box 15 Unit!

Recently the Box 15 club found out our truck #2 was in dire need of service. An announcement was made during a Central Ohio Fire Chiefs Association for a replacement truck, we were approached by Washington Township Fire Department and Chief Al Woo. What was available from Washington Township Fire was a 2003 Ford F350 Horton Medic, after careful consideration the executive board members of Box 15 agreed to accept the truck from the department. After all the paperwork was complete Box 15 took possession of the unit on November 25th and members of Box 15 went to work to convert the truck over to a rehab unit. Following a cleaning of the unit, demarking of the previous owner, State of Ohio title & registration change, measurement of the unit, mounting of the rehab equipment, and changeover from the previous 1991 Ford/Horton and relettering of the unit. We now have a new 2003 Ford/Horton unit. Box 15 would like to publicly thank the Washington Township Trustees, the Fire Department and all its members, for the  truck. G2 Print Plus and Ryan Parrish for lettering on the truck. Columbus Fire Station #30, for use of the station to store the unit, and Prairie Township Fire Department for consideration on the use of their facilities. We will be stopping by several fire stations to show off the unit in the near future. If you stop by our photos on the account you can check out the new truck.
