Box 15 Assists CFD on Rand Ave.

During the evening hours of Saturday January 22, Box 15 made a cold weather response to the 1200 block of Rand Ave on a working fire in an eight unit, two story brick apartment building. With temperatures hovering in the low teens, the two person response crew provided water and hot beverages to approximately 25 firefighters from Columbus and Whitehall as well as several displaced residents.

While results of the fire investigation are still pending, news reports indicate that the fire may have originated in an electrical panel.

This marked the second major fire in this apartment complex in as many days. On January 20, fire crews battled a standby 2nd alarm fire during a period of heavy snow. Box 15 had a crew responding to that incident, but were cancelled when the fire was quickly knocked down, holding only the first alarm companies.

Box 15 Called to Pickaway County

Box 15 was requested yesterday afternoon to the 10000 block of Ashville Pike. Several people called 911 to report a fire in a mobile home. Harrison Township engine 803 was 1st to arrive and found a fire in the front room. Crews were unable to extinguish the fire due to a lack of hydrants in the rear of the Meadowbrook village trailer park. The 2nd arriving engine was unable to pump water. By the time the 3rd engine was arriving on scene the fire had extended throughout the structure and was then fought defensivly.

Due to the extreme cold weather with temps in the single digits during the fire Madison Township requested Box 15 for rehab. Our crews arrived on scene within an hour of being requested and provided rehab for 30 fire and ems crews. We served one gallon of hot chocolate and one gallon of coffee to crews along with roughly 25 granola bars. Our crews remained on scene for two hours.

Photos of the incident can be seen here.
