1st Run of the Year

On January 5, 2013 at approximately 1345, companies from Columbus, Upper Arlington, & Norwich Twp. responded to a report of a fire @ 3834 Lakedale Drive. Upon the arrival of Columbus Engine 30, they found a four unit condominium with flames venting through the roof. Upon the arrival of Rehab 2, Box 15 served 45 firefighters 1.5 cases of water, 16 packets of Hot Chocolate, & 2 granola bars. Box 15 was on the scene for approximately 1 hour as crews did extensive overhaul.

Major Fire on the East Side

At about 4:30 AM on Sunday, December 30, 2012, companies from Bn. 6 responded to a reported fire on Barrows Road. Engine and Ladder 32 arrived to find two single family homes fully involved with fire spreading to a third structure.The companies had to take a defensive position with hand lines and the tower.The fire was knocked down quickly, however, it not only spread to a third structure, a fourth was visibly damaged. The fire did burn through support beams causing collapses of the second floors. With temperatures at 25 degrees, the street was very icy.Box 15 served plenty of hot chocolate & coffee. We also supplied coffee to the Red Cross for the families that were displaced.

 

    

Box 15 responds to near by house fire

During our Christmas shirt sale, a working fire was aired on 1500 block of Franklin Ave. Box 15 members were able to quickly respond in Rehab 2 and arrived to find companies fighting heavy fire in the second floor & attic of a single family dwelling. Club members were on the scene for around 45 minutes, proving water and coffee to fire personnel working during a light drizzle. 

                           

Abandoned Structure burns in Canal Winchester

Fire crews were dispatched to downtown Canal Winchester just as “Christmas in the Village” was ending.  Three buildings of a long-closed lumber yard, just east of the historic downtown district, were quickly fully involved.  Madison Township & Columbus companies, along with units from Violet, Bloom and Hamilton Township departments, fought the 2-alarm blaze for more than an hour before declaring it under control.  They were successful in preventing the fire from spreading to a business, literally 2 feet away from the all wood structure.  Rehab 1 responded with a crew of 2, meeting 3 additional members who were already on-scene.  We dispensed coffee & hot chocolate, along with granola bars.

Executive Board Elections

 

At the final business meeting for 2012, Box 15 members voted for executive board members for the upcoming year. Returning to the board are: President Brett Barber, Vice President Kevin Shop, Secretary Bob Hess, and Trustee Sonny Lewis. New board members are Treasurer Lisa Phillips and longtime member Greg Northrop has returned to the board as trustee.
